Knowledge

At Rutgers University Press, we seek authorship that adds value and expertise in a world that needs to be led by knowledge and truth. These are the tent poles by which we will commission projects and books. Find out more on here on this author hub, where we provide links to all the information you need. If you’re already an author with us, you should find everything you need here.

Author FAQs

Do you offer an author discount?

Authors, Editors, Contributors, and Series Editors are entitled to a discount off their own book and all other books published by Rutgers University Press. Author discounts are specified in your book contract and all author sales are generally non-returnable. Please note, author discounts and US pricing does not apply to our European and Canadian distributors.

For more details, please go here.

How do I generate a discount flier?

Discount fliers are available for download on the respective book pages. As you will see, these fliers feature a discount on the list price and can be used to help promote the book. Simply click on the link on the book page and a PDF will be generated.

What should be included in a manuscript submission?

When submitting a proposal, please include the following information:

  • General description of the book’s purpose, content, format, audience, length, and special features, including illustrations (projected number, black and white or color)—3-10 pages.
  • Table of contents or chapter outline, with short summaries of each chapter or section (about a page per chapter).
    Two sample chapters.
  • Market for the book: e.g., scholarly or professional organizations whose members would be most interested, potential for classroom use as required or recommended reading, competing books and how yours differs from them.
  • List of any sections of the book that are being published separately, e.g., as journal articles.
  • Timetable for completion.
  • List of possible expert readers, with an email address for contacting them if possible. Please note their qualifications and previous association with you, if any.
  • Your qualifications for writing this book. Please enclose a vita.

Please allow three to four weeks for an initial response. Please be advised that we no longer publish fiction or poetry.e and probably in a lot of detail. 30th March - 21st October is our submission period. We review submissions for weeks and then we will respond in due course. Please do not get in touch until the deadline has passed.
